I haven't played for a couple of years, so I'm sure I'm doing
something stupid, I just need someone to point out what it is...

I'm trying to initiate a ground combat in a test game I'm running. I
have race 1 landing troops and HG on race 2's homeworld. Race 1
establishes a base, the attack mode is set to Crush, Kill, Destroy!
Race 2's base is set to peaceful. Ally commands are set to attack for
both. But no ground combat ever occurs... I've tried different
combinations of base attack settings, I just can't think of any other
conditions which must be met for ground combat to occur... could my
host/game installation be bad, somehow? Everything else seems to be
working fine. What am I missing? Thanks!

Are you referring to the turn you land on the HWor does also in the
following turns no ground combat occur?
As cannot not ground attack in the turn it is formed.

It could also be your host version. For a a short period, a bug made
it so CKD wouldn't work. Try making sure you have the most up to date
host (Host v4.000.213h). You can get it a drewheads.

No combat during following turns after the base was formed. I was
pretty sure I remembered that rule about no combat the first turn the
base was created, so I made sure to give it a few extra turns. I'm
running host 213, and I've tried Capture and Attack-and-Run settings,
and still no combat. I know certain attack settings on one base can
sometimes block certain attack settings on the other base, but if one
base is set to Peaceful, then any attack setting on the other base
should work, correct?

213h will solve your trouble.

213 and some later had trouble with ground combat.

That did the trick. I knew it'd be something stupid like that. I
looked and saw host 213, and didn't realize that it wasn't 213*H*...
Thanks a lot!!
